In addition, we tell you how we obtained the data for this study, what tools we used and what criteria we followed. You will be surprised to discover the complexity and richness of this sport, which combines science, art and culture.

If
you are passionate about chess, or simply want to learn more about this fascinating world, do not miss this article, which has been very difficult due to the scarcity of elo data in classical games from countries before 2015.

To prepare this publication, data was taken from the following pages:

  • Specialized websites
  •  Chess.com
  •  FIDE classification taking into account the average for the year.
  •  From the official FIDE website in December 2015 to 2023.

To calculate the elo of the countries, an average is made with the selection of the first 10 players rated according to the year's classification according to FIDE. It is worth noting that FIDE has changed the way of calculating players' elo and has implemented some modifications by inactivating players who remain a year without playing an official game (this is reversed when they play again), which is taken into account in the statistics from 2015.

This compilation was made according to the sources consulted and its disclosure is under our responsibility. We appreciate any collaboration in this regard.
